Join the Towne Art Gallery at Wheelock College for The Hundred Dresses Project: We Are All In This Together, an exhibit by Portland, ME-based artist Crystal Cawley. Cawley imagined and realized this exhibition as a tribute to Eleanor Estes’ classic book The Hundred Dresses. First published in 1944 and particularly relevant today, Estes’ book is a tribute to the importance of acceptance, inclusion, art, empathy, and the courage to stand up for what is right.
For this non-juried exhibit, Cawley printed 200 letterpress, yellow dresses and invited people of all ages, genders, and walks of life to read the book and create their own dress on the provided print. The exhibition will show the many interpretations inspired by Estes’ book. Cawley describes The Hundred Dresses Project as “a response to the increasingly nasty and small-minded political rhetoric that has tainted our culture, our country, and our world—a blight that we must obliterate for the sake of all children everywhere.”
